Fame or Shame?
Well the weekend is almost here, and I have decided to designate Fridays as a day of tribute to those who have helped make me the person I am today. There are many positive and negative things that have affected me throughout the years, whether it be people, places, or even periods of time; since it is not fair to place both types of influences into the same category, This is Why it Sucks proudly introduce The Hater Hall of Fame & Hall of Shame. Each glorious Friday we will accept a new member into these hallowed halls, and highlight their great, or insignificant, contributions to hater history. Today I will induct the inaugural member into The Hater Hall of Fame, a comedian who may be one of the most intelligent haters that ever lived:
George Denis Patrick Carlin, Born May 12, 1937 Died June 22, 2008
George Carlin was born in New York City, and raised in a neighborhood of Manhattan he and his friends nicknamed ”White Harlem”–because that sounded tougher than its actual name, Morningside Heights. He began doing comedy routines with Jack Burns on a local radio station in Texas at the age of 22, and one year later they both left for California to pursue careers in stand-up. Carlin soon began performing sans Burns, and in the 60′s he appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show and was a frequent guest host on The Tonight Show. He also hosted the first episode of NBC’s Saturday Night Lve on October 11, 1975, although he didn’t appear in any of the skits. The unapologetic and edgy routine Carlin developed over his years as a comedian made him an icon, and he is undoubtedly worthy of being the first member in the Hater Hall of Fame. Carlin died of heart failure in Santa Monica, California at the age of 71.(Bio summarized from his Wikipedia entry)

“I’m completely in favor of the separation of Church and State. My idea is that these two institutions screw us up enough on their own, so both of them together is certain death.”
“If it’s true that our species is alone in the universe, then I’d have to say that the universe aimed rather low and settled for very little.”
“Thanks to the fear of death in this country I won’t have to die…I’ll pass away!”
