The Onion News Network
In my opinion, fake news is probably the best kind of news there is; I mean, who wants to come home after work and watch stories of murder, famine, or chaos – unless it’s some new Schwarzenegger project about his fight against a rogue anarchist group based in Ethiopia. Watching legitimate news shows is more depressing than that current animal cruelty commercial, which features both heartbreaking pictures and Sarah McLachlan’s shitty music. The world as we know it is a cruel, unjust place (just look at Ryan Seacrest’s career), so I don’t need some talking head with a $100 haircut and Armani suit to affirm what I already know to be true. There is an element of satire possible in just about anything that’s deemed to be newsworthy, no matter how tragic – it’s just that not everyone has the sense of humor to view certain things in a comedic light. Without a doubt, the good people at The Onion do not fall into that category. This fake news publication was founded in 1988 by two students from the University of Wisconsin at Madison; today, The Onion newspaper has a circulation of 690K subscribers (subscriptions are free), and a popular website that was launched in 1996. In March 2007, they started their own news network, aptly named The ONN. The group produces daily web video broadcasts that poke fun at some of the biggest headlines in the news – and they do it very well:
Who knew that Hillary Clinton was considered a WMD – woman of mass destruction:
I can personally attest to this growing phenomenon:
