2009 Retrospective Collective

2009newyears

I thought about writing a year end post highlighting some of the best moments from 2009, but ultimately decided that some things are best left to the professionals.  All in all, it has was a pretty good year from what little I can remember – as you get older, why does time seem to melt together like a Timex in a Salvador Dali painting?  I will probably celebrate this day the same way I have over the past few years: eat massive amounts of food, grab a few drinks, watch a bunch of seemingly happy couples in formal wear act like they’re at a high school prom, see a cute female who seems to be available, imagine what I’d say to break the ice, realize I got nothin, remember the embarrassment that comes with getting rejected, tell myself she’s probably a beyotch anyway, go home alone, eat some more food, and pass out before midnight.  But enough about my highly depressing New Year’s tradition, let’s take a look at what some bona fide sites will remember most from the year that was 2009:

The Smoking Gun’s 2009 Mug Shots of the Year

Neatorama recaps The 30 Freakiest Advertisements of 2009 (Unnecessary spoiler alert: most of them are foreign)

Videogum lists The Worst People of 2009 (I would have substituted Dane Cook for Seth MacFarlane)

The high brow humorists at Mental Floss countdown the 5 Most Read Stories on Mentalfloss.com (I guess the person who asked about #2 had never seen Jon Stewart in Half Baked)

This last one has nothing to do with the end of 2009, but who doesn’t love pictures of drunk famous people?

Have a Happy New Year, and I’d like to thank everyone who has read TIWIS since it started last February.  I won’t promise the site will be better in 2010 and beyond, but I can guarantee it won’t get any worse…probably
