Hell on Earth, aka Liberia
Do you know these annoying people who whine and complain about stupid little insignificant problems/occurrences day in and day out? For those of you who don’t, they are typically uptight, anal retentive sons a bitches who treat every little bump in the road as if it’s an apocalyptic event – like flipping out when someone incorrectly orients the toilet paper roll in the bathroom. I am not saying I don’t get pissed about little things on occasion, but I always try to view my minor problems through the bigger picture. A lot of these chronic complainers probably put stock into the stupid saying “the grass is always greener…”; but anyone with a brain can tell you that is definitely not the case in today’s world. When you’re talking about poor, third world countries, it would be more fitting to say something like, “the grass is always dead, but the dirt is blood-soaked and littered with bullets from automatic assault rifles.” The following video was shot by Vice Magazine’s founder Shane Smith in the country of Liberia, and this edition of the “Vice Guide to Travel” focuses on the history of violence caused by a civil war that has now plagued this west African country for over 14 years.
This is almost an hour long, it contains language and graphically disturbing images; but I’ve always found that watching something like this opens my eyes, and makes me glad that I live a boringly normal life:
