Silky’s Sunday Blues: Van Halen Edition

Van Halen released their self-titled debut album in 1978, and since that time they have gone on to become the 19th best-selling band of all-time in the United States.  With 56 million albums sold stateside, and 80 million worldwide, the group has experienced continued success despite some public spectacles involving their two most famous frontmen – not to mention the debacle of deciding to hire a Criss Angel impersonator at one time.  Of course, like pretty much every other 80′s band now, they are still touring and milkin’ the money cow; but like those other bands, they haven’t necessarily gotten better with age.

I never knew if this song was about the country, the beach in Florida, or tropical lifestyle products.  

Unfortunately, most of the teachers throughout my school career were either men, or looked liked like Bea Arthur, so I never experienced this type of stimulation from education: 

Many consider Eddie Van Halen to be one of the greatest rock guitarists ever, and this 10 minute solo titled “Eruption” is one of his best:
